Origin: Cultivated form of Anubias barteri (West Africa)

Type: Rhizome plant

Growth Rate: Slow

Size: Height: 3–6 cm (1–2.5 in) Width: 4–8 cm (1.5–3 in)

Natural Habitat: The parent species grows along shaded riverbanks and submerged roots where low light and stable water conditions support slow, steady growth.

Special Considerations: Very slow growth makes it stable but sensitive to algae if exposed to excessive light. Do not bury the rhizome.

Did You Know? “Petite” forms are selected for their extremely short leaf spacing, allowing them to create dense, miniature clusters ideal for detailed aquascaping.

Tank Size: Suitable for aquariums 10 L (2.5 gallons) or larger

Plant Placement: Best used as a foreground to low midground plant attached to small rocks, driftwood, or decorative elements. Ideal for filling tight gaps and highlighting fine details. Pairs effectively with carpeting plants such as Micranthemum tweediei “Monte Carlo” and Marsilea hirsuta, while contrasting with larger plants like Anubias barteri and Bucephalandra “Kedagang”. Combines naturally with mosses such as Taxiphyllum barbieri (Java moss) and Taxiphyllum sp. “Flame moss” to create detailed, layered compositions.

Compatibility: Suitable for aquariums including chili rasboras, celestial pearl danios, ember tetras, Corydoras pygmaeus, and Otocinclus, along with shrimp such as cherry shrimp and blue dream shrimp. Its small size keeps lower areas open while allowing small fish to move comfortably around hardscape, making it especially effective in nano and low-volume layouts.

Substrate: Rhizome should not be buried; attach to rocks or driftwood

Light: Low to moderate (15–40 PAR) for 6–8 hours daily

Temperature: 22–28 °C (72–82 °F)

pH: 6.0 – 7.5

Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water (3–12 dGH)

CO₂: Not required

Care & Propagation:
Maintain stable conditions and avoid excessive light to prevent algae buildup. Growth is slow and predictable. Propagate by dividing the rhizome into sections with several leaves.

Portion Size 1 carefully selected rhizome plant attached to natural lava rock, ready for aquarium placement.

Plant Size Plants are typically 5–7 cm (2–3 in) tall depending on the species and growth stage.

Plant Type Rhizome plant securely attached to lava rock for easy placement in the aquarium.

Snail-Free & Aquarium Safe Plants are grown without chemicals that could harm fish, shrimp, or other aquarium inhabitants and are carefully inspected to ensure they are snail-free.

Transition After Shipping Some older leaves may change appearance as the plant adapts to new aquarium conditions. Healthy new leaves will grow from the rhizome.

Planting Guide

  1. 1.Remove the protective plastic packaging.
  2. 2.Rinse the plant and lava rock gently with clean water.
  3. 3.Place the lava rock directly on the aquarium substrate or position it within your aquascape.
  4. 4.Ensure the rhizome remains above the substrate and is not buried.

If preferred, you may carefully remove the fishing line and attach the plant to driftwood, rocks, or aquarium decorations.

Tip
Use this plant to highlight small hardscape details and fill tight spaces where larger plants cannot fit.

Aquascaping tweezers and scissors from your aquascaping tool set make it easier to position plants and adjust surrounding growth without disturbing the layout.
