🌿 Erect Moss (Vesicularia reticulata), also known as Anchor Moss, is a unique aquatic moss loved for its bold, upright growth pattern. Unlike most mosses that spread horizontally, Erect Moss grows vertically—creating dense, tree-like clusters that add height, texture, and a dynamic look to any aquascape. Its rich green color and tidy growth make it a beautiful choice for attaching to driftwood, rocks, or mesh.

🍃 Easy Level: Excellent for aquascapers expanding into more decorative moss species with approachable care.

Excellent for forest, tree-style, and Nature Aquarium layouts
Its upright growth creates miniature tree-like textures in aquascapes.

Suitable for beginner planted aquariums
The moss grows reliably in most aquarium environments.

Distinct vertical moss structure
Unlike most mosses, the shoots grow upward rather than spreading flat.

Forms dense upright clusters
Over time the moss builds thick vertical patches on hardscape.

Ideal for aquascaping moss trees
It is often used to simulate foliage in underwater forest layouts.

Origin: Southeast Asia

Type: Moss

Growth Rate:
Slow

Size: Height: 5–12 cm (2–5 in) Width: Forms vertical clusters

Natural Habitat: Erect Moss grows on submerged tree roots and rocks in shaded river systems where water flow keeps surfaces oxygenated.

Special Considerations: Because this moss grows vertically, it benefits from occasional trimming to maintain its upright structure and prevent excessive density.

Did You Know?
Unlike most aquarium mosses that spread horizontally across surfaces, Erect Moss grows upward in vertical shoots. This unusual growth habit allows aquascapers to create height and layered textures within aquascapes.

Tank Size: Suitable for aquariums 10 L (2.5 gallons) or larger.

Plant Placement: Often attached to driftwood or vertical surfaces, where its upright growth pattern creates tree-like aquascaping effects. It pairs nicely with plants such as Anubias barteri and Rotala orange juice, while carpets like dwarf hairgrass can highlight the base.

Compatibility: Ideal for shrimp tanks and nano aquariums with cherry shrimp, Amano shrimp, rasboras, and snails. The upright moss clusters provide microhabitats where shrimp can hide and graze.

Substrate: Attach to hardscape rather than planting.

Light: Low to moderate lighting.

Temperature: 20–28 °C (68–82 °F)

pH: 6.0 – 7.5

Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water.

CO₂: Optional.

Care & Propagation: Trim lightly to maintain vertical growth. Moss fragments can be tied to new surfaces.

Portion Size 1 plastic cup portion (3.25 oz) filled with healthy aquarium moss. This portion can typically cover a small piece of driftwood, several rocks, or multiple aquascape accents depending on how it is divided.

Plant Size Moss portions vary naturally in shape and density depending on growth stage.

Plant Type Loose moss portion suitable for attaching to driftwood, rocks, mesh, or other aquascape hardscape.

Snail-Free & Aquarium Safe
Plants are grown without chemicals that could harm fish, shrimp, or other aquarium inhabitants and are carefully inspected to ensure they are snail-free.

Transition After Shipping
Moss may appear slightly compressed after shipping but will expand naturally once placed in the aquarium.

Planting Guide

  1. 1.Remove the moss from the plastic cup and rinse gently with clean water.
  2. 2.Separate the moss into smaller portions if desired.
  3. 3.Spread the moss over rocks, driftwood, mesh, or decorations.
  4. 4.Secure the moss using fishing line, thread, or aquarium-safe glue.
  5. 5.Over time the moss will attach naturally and begin to grow.

Natural Habitat for Aquarium Life
Dense moss provides excellent shelter for shrimp, baby fish, and beneficial microorganisms within the aquarium.
