Iron EDTA (Fe) Capsules for Aquariums (10cap)
What They Do
Iron EDTA capsules provide a stable, slow-release source of iron that supports vibrant leaf coloration and healthy plant growth. They are especially beneficial for red and fast-growing aquatic plants that require higher iron levels.
Iron (Fe) is vital for chlorophyll production, photosynthesis, and enzyme activity, helping plants maintain rich green and red tones.
How to Use
Preparation
-
Ensure your substrate is at least 2–3 inches deep.
-
Ideal for root-feeding plants such as Amazon Swords, Cryptocoryne, Vallisneria, and Red Ludwigia.
-
Iron EDTA works best when combined with a complete root fertilizer like Osmocote for balanced nutrition.
Placement
-
Push each capsule 1 inch (2–3 cm) below the substrate, directly under or near plant roots.
-
Avoid placing capsules directly under the stem base — offset slightly to encourage root spread.
-
Do not leave capsules exposed on the surface.
Dosage by Tank Size
| Aquarium Size | Light Planting | Heavy Planting / Iron-Demanding Plants |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 10 gal | 1–2 capsules | 2–3 capsules |
| 10–20 gal | 2–3 capsules | 3–5 capsules |
| 20–40 gal | 3–5 capsules | 6–8 capsules |
| 40–75 gal | 6–8 capsules | 10–12 capsules |
| 75+ gal | 10–12 capsules | 15–18 capsules (spread evenly) |
💡 Tip: Red plants (like Ludwigia, Alternanthera, Rotala, etc.) and heavily planted tanks may benefit from slightly higher doses.
Frequency
-
Capsules slowly release iron for 6–8 weeks depending on plant uptake and water conditions.
-
Replace or reinsert new capsules every 2 months or when plants show signs of iron deficiency:
-
Yellowing between veins on new leaves
-
Fading red coloration
-
Slower growth
-
Ingredients
Iron (Fe-EDTA) Complex — 100% Chelated Iron Source
-
Iron (Fe): Essential for chlorophyll synthesis and vibrant coloration
-
EDTA Chelate: Keeps iron soluble and available to plants, even in varying pH levels
-
Inert capsule base: Biodegradable and safe for fish, shrimp, and snails
Extra Tips
✅ Use directly in the substrate near red or fast-growing plants.
✅ Combine with root fertilizers (like Osmocote) for full NPK + micronutrient balance.
✅ Avoid placing too many capsules in one area — distribute evenly for steady release.
✅ Monitor for algae if overdosed; iron in excess can fuel algae growth.
✅ Safe for all freshwater aquariums.
